Cupping Therapy in Los Angeles
Suction-based soft-tissue work, performed by Gina Parra, CMT, to help loosen restricted areas so you can move and train into better positions.
Cupping therapy uses cups placed on the skin to create suction that lifts the skin and underlying fascia. At StretchFormation in North Hollywood, cupping massage is performed by Gina Parra, CMT, a Certified Massage Therapist, and is used as a supporting therapy: it can help loosen restricted soft tissue so you can move into better positions that our alignment and strength training then builds on.
How cupping works
Instead of pressing into tissue like most massage, cupping uses suction to draw the skin and fascia upward. Cups may be left in place briefly or glided across oiled skin (sometimes called cupping massage). The goal is to help break up adhesions and improve the mobility of the soft tissue.
Who performs it
Cupping at StretchFormation is performed by Gina Parra, CMT, a Certified Massage Therapist who has worked in the rehab setting and specializes in the StretchFormation method of static and dynamic postural work. Because certain therapists are specifically trained in certain techniques, please request cupping when you book.
How it supports your training
Feeling looser is most useful when you put the new range to work. We use cupping to prepare restricted areas, then use our posture, alignment and strength training to build stability and strength in better positions. It pairs well with assisted stretching and myofascial release.
About cupping marks
Cupping commonly leaves round red or purplish marks where the cups were placed. They are usually painless and typically fade within several days to a week or so. If you have an event coming up, mention it so placement and suction can be adjusted.
Built to support your training
Supporting therapies help you get into better positions. Our posture, alignment & strength training is what helps you keep them, building the stability, dynamic posture and movement that support long-term physical health.
This service is offered for wellness and mobility purposes and is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment. Individual results vary.
